Psalm 46
Psalm 46(NRSV)

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult. 4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High.. God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved; God will help it when the morning dawns.. The nations are in an uproar, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts.. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge..8 Come, behold the works of the LORD; see what desolations he has brought on the earth.. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire..10 "Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among nations, I am exalted in the earth.". 11 the The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge..

Pentecost

Matthew 28 16-20 (NRSV) 16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Acts 1 12-14 (NRSV) 12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day's journey away. 13 When they had entered the city, they went to the room upstairs where they were staying, Peter, and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. 14 All these were constantly devoting themselves to prayer, together with certain women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, as well as his brothers.
Acts 2 1-4 (NRSV) 1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
1 Corinthians 3: 5-11 (NRSV) 5 What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you came to believe, as the Lord assigned to each. 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 7 So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters have a common purpose, and each will receive wages according to the labor of each. 9 For we are God's servants, working together; you are God's field, God's building. 10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it. Each builder must choose with care how to build on it. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ

Tree of Life

Genesis 2: 8-14 (NRSV) 8 And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 Out of the ground the LORD God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 10 A river flows out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it divides and becomes four branches. 11 The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one that flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 12 and the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there. 13 The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one that flows around the whole land of Cush. 14 The name of the third river is Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. Revelation 22 1-5(NRSV) The river and the tree of life 1Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3 Nothing accursed will be found there any more. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him; 4 they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 And there will be no more night; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.

Baptism of Jesus

The image depicts the pathways winding and becoming straight, the hills becoming low and the valley filled in; all leading to the same meeting point that being the water in which Jesus is baptised. The image depicts the angels from heaven in the top left of the painting and the decent of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus. This is represented as both a 'dove like' form in a trinity of colours for father, son and Holy Spirit. Beside Jesus are two crowds the Pharisees and the Seduces a divided people and represented as such in the image yet united in Christ through the Holy Spirit that rests upon each of their heads. Luke 3: 3-6 (NIV) 3He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 4As is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: "A voice of one calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. 5Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. 6And all mankind will see God's salvation.'”
Luke 3: 15-18 (NIV) 15The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John might possibly be the Christ. 16John answered them all, "I baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come; the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. 17His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." 18And with many other words
Luke 3: 21-22 (NIV) 21When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as hebodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased."

Atonement

In this image Jesus is depicted crucified upon the tree from which Adam and eve have eaten the forbidden fruit. The imagery centres on ‘atonement’ for mans sin, Jesus being that atonement for Adam and eves fall, crucified upon the tree of mans sin. Adam and eve are represented as branches morphing up out of the dust of the ground and eve created from Adams rib. They are covered by fig leaves and the forbidden fruit from the tree is at their feet. The flaming sword that is behind them guards the way to the tree of life, the pathway that is Jesus.
